Endogeneity in Residential Location Models
نویسنده
چکیده
The development of models to understand the behavior of an Urban Transportation System (UTS) as a whole is crucial, not only for the evaluation and exploration of policies to manage the level of pollution and congestion in the cities, but also for solving problems such as the efficient provision of utilities, infrastructure and schools. UTS can be viewed as the result of the interaction of many regulated and deregulated markets, or subsystems, where different agents participate in diverse time and spatial horizons. The usual approach to manage this complexity corresponds to the division of the problem in many interrelated subsystems or stages that form the demand and the supply of this market. Addressing Endogeneity in Residential Location Models
Some empirical residential location choice models have reported dwelling-unit price estimated parameters that are small, not statistically significant, or even positive. This would imply that households are non-sensitive to changes in dwelling unit prices or location taxes, which is not only against intuition, but also makes the models useless for policy analysis. One explanation for this resul...
متن کاملModeling the Choice Continuum: an Integrated Model of Residential Location, Auto Ownership, Bicycle Ownership, and Commute Tour Mode Choice Decisions
The integrated modeling of land use and transportation involves analyzing the entire choice continuum defining people’s lifestyles across temporal scales. This includes long term choices such as residential and work location choices, medium term choices such as vehicle and bicycle ownership, and short term choices such as mode choice and trip departure time choice. In recent times, there has be...

This includes long-term choices such as residential and work location choices that affect land-use, medium-term choices such as vehicle ownership, and short-term choices such as travel mode choice that affect travel demand. متن کاملPublic Housing and Unemployment: Skills and Spatial Mismatch in Postindustrial Hong Kong
The impact of living in public rental housing on employment has been the subject of much debate internationally. Theory suggests that restrictions on residential mobility, neighborhood effects, and the place-based housing subsidy itself contribute to the higher rates of unemployment often observed among public housing tenants. However, recent evidence from Europe and Australia show that when pr...
